Location: Nottingham | Salary: £26,325 – £30,000 (DOE)
Contract: Full-time, permanent

Make a Real Difference – Equipped with Tools That Work

At Norman Galloway Homes, we believe that care-experienced young people deserve not just a place to live – but the opportunity to thrive. We’re recruiting passionate Youth Workers to work across three key areas aligned with a care-experienced version of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

1. Meeting Physical Needs, Safety and Belonging

You will play a vital role in helping young people feel secure and valued from the moment they move in.

  • Our accommodation offers more than just shelter – it is a place of safety, rest, and dignity.
  • You will ensure basic needs like warmth, food, rest, and physical safety are consistently met, in line with the foundational level of the Children’s Commissioner’s Hierarchy of Needs for Care Experienced Young People
  • Every member of our team – from senior staff to support workers – shares responsibility for creating a space where young people feel a deep sense of belonging, supported by trusted relationships and a trauma-informed approach.

2. Building Confidence Through Our Life Skills Programme

Once safety is secured, your focus will shift to nurturing self-esteem, independence, and autonomy.

  • We are launching a brand-new Life Skills Training Space, replicating a real home environment.
  • Young people will learn over 150 essential skills, including:
  • Administration, bulk waste collection budgeting, energy
  • Decorating, painting, and DIY
  • Changing locks and putting up shelves
  • Bleeding radiators and installing appliances
  • You'll deliver these sessions in a practical, hands-on way using workbooks, self-assessment tools, and photo evidence to celebrate progress.

Tool Highlight: You'll have access to a purpose-built, fully equipped simulated flat and practical skills training environment, a structured Life Skills Workbook, and digital support tools to track development and build confidence.

3. Empowering Young People into Employment

As part of our Jobs Programme, you'll guide young people towards real, paid work with trusted employers.

  • Our programme goes beyond employability workshops – we offer actual subsidised roles (up to 22.5 hours/week) for young people.
  • You’ll:
  • Match young people with employers based on their strengths and aspirations
  • Provide in-work coaching and soft-skills development
  • Offer regular feedback and troubleshooting support to both employer and employee
  • Help young people build workplace confidence and long-term independence

Tool Highlight: Our in-house training, employer partnerships, and financial wage subsidies mean you can almost guarantee a paid opportunity that fits each young person.

What You Bring

  • Experience supporting young people, ideally care leavers or vulnerable groups
  • Confidence delivering structured sessions or one-to-one support
  • Practical skills and a willingness to get your hands dirty (literally – DIY, budgeting, cooking, etc.)
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine belief in young people’s potential
  • A team spirit – we work collaboratively, with a shared sense of purpose
